The 8th Annual Library Assistants’ Day was held on October 1. Library paraprofessionals from around the state were drawn to Syracuse for a day of fun, camaraderie and learning.

The event was co-sponsored by CLRC, SCRLC, RRLC, CDLC, WNYLRC and NNYLN. Too many acronyms? Let’s just say it was brought to you by six NY 3Rs, Inc. Councils from the north, east, south and west.

Over 100 attendees had an opportunity to hear presentations on:
* How to Be A Leader When You’re Not in Charge
* Hosting an Affordable Care Act (ACA) Event in Your Library
* Better Searching Skills
* Anatomy of a MARC Record
* Marketing Your Library with Social Media
* Safety and Security in the Library

The group had fun guessing company logos during a morning ice-breaker and at the end of the day, many won raffle prizes generously donated by New York State Library Assistants’ Association (NYSLAA) and library vendors such as Kapco and Random House.

This year, with thanks to Déirdre Joyce, CLRC Digital Services Librarian, attendees could familiarize themselves with the free resources available through the New York Heritage and New York Historic Newspapers projects.

And as always, the food was fantastic!
