CLRC is happy to announce we’ve been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Mozilla Foundation, in conjunction with the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS), for Web Literacy Skills for Library Staff. This pilot project will lead innovation in the area of web literacy training and credentialing that will inform future work with public libraries. It addresses the national demand for technology services in libraries by equipping more library staff with core web literacy skills. Building on Mozilla’s Web Literacy skills and curriculum, and aligned with IMLS’s 21st Century skills definitions, the project will help library staff learn web literacy skills that will enable them to better serve their patrons.

The pilot will run from June 2016 through December 2016. CLRC will pilot the Mozilla web literacy skills training and credentials/badges with staff in selected public libraries. Library staff will have the opportunity to participate in Mozilla developed and facilitated in-person and online interactive train-the-trainer workshops using Mozilla’s open source curriculum, tools, and credentials. As part of the pilot, library staff will have the opportunity to provide real time and continuous feedback on what works to help Mozilla staff adapt curriculum, tools, training, and credentials to meet the needs of library staff in a diverse settings. Library staff will be expected to practice and/or teach other library staff their new skills during the pilot period.

CLRC is one of five organizations participating in the pilot. Our focus is directed toward libraries in smaller and rural communities. Our partners for this pilot include two libraries within the Onondaga County Public Library System and three libraries in the Mid-York Library System:

Lafayette Public Library
Tully Free Library
Clayville Library Association
Morrisville Public Library
Weller Library

We look forward to working with our partners and helping to refine the Mozilla training curriculum.
