LOEX Conference
Naperville, IL

May 2024

I had so much fun at the LOEX conference! As an Information Literacy Scholar, most of my time in graduate school is spent teaching information literacy in Bird Library. We always want to create engaging lessons for our undergraduates.
The LOEX conference gave me and my colleagues many ideas to integrate into our instruction! One of the coolest sessions that we attended revolved around using celebrity scandals as a way to conduct background checks and verify information. It was presented as a flipped classroom model so that students could focus on the fun exercises during the instruction session. We were so excited about it and want to implement it this Fall! I also got the chance to present a poster during this conference. My poster was on creating a LibGuide for Scopus. I wanted to test the feasibility of creating database-specific guides with database-specific search strategies. My poster presentation was one of my favorite parts of the conference! I got the chance to connect with fellow librarians and get amazing feedback for my LibGuide which I plan to put into action this summer. Through this presentation, I was able to connect with many amazing science librarians and talk to them about their favorite parts of their job! As someone who wants to be a science librarian in the future, these discussions solidified my choice.
The LOEX conference provided me with the ideas and the connections to solidify my future in instruction and my career!
