Description:
Haven’t a clue what to do with that box of donated books? Do you need to brush up on the basics of information organization (aka cataloging)? Are you puzzled where RDA and metadata fit in at your library? Then look no further than these workshops:

Part One – Cataloging with a Dash of RDA (Morning session)
This session will cover the basics of cataloging and authorities for all types of libraries, with an introduction to the what and why of RDA (Resource Description and Access). Attendees will learn why we catalog, how we do it (including classification systems), what authorities are and why they are important. In addition, a brief introduction to RDA will also be included.

Part Two – Catalogers Cogitation: Metadata and RDA in Context (Afternoon session)
This session will provide an introduction to metadata and RDA (Resource Description and Access) as they relate to cataloging in all types of libraries—what they are, how librarians use them, and why they are important to 21st century librarians and their users. Attendees will learn what metadata is, how metadata relates to catalogs and cataloging, and receive a practical overview of RDA basics.
