Please provide a brief narrative explaining what the grant was used for and its outcomes.

We used the grant for several programs related to the solar eclipse. One was a workshop presented by The MOST called “Learn About the Solar Eclipse with The MOST!” This was for all ages. A museum educator discussed what happens during a solar eclipse, how to view it safely, and what to do to prepare for it. Another program was “Create a UV Bracelet.” This was for all ages. Patrons made their own ultraviolet light detecting bracelet using UV beads, that change color when exposed to a UV light source, such as the Sun. We also took this activity to a local elementary school as part of their Maker Day activities. Another library program we offered was “Eclipse Chalk Art” for all ages. Kids created chalk art and discovered the Sun’s corona (“crown”). During an eclipse, the Sun’s corona, the outermost part of its atmosphere, is visible! Lastly, we offered “Building a Pizza Box Solar Ovens” for Grades K-6. Kids made their own solar oven out of a pizza box and learned about energy and solar power. They received a bag of s’mores ingredients to cook at a later (warmer and sunnier) date.
