Do you use FirstSearch to search WorldCat? Other databases? Read on.
FIRSTSEARCH IS BEING REPLACED
WorldCat Discovery is the new service that will REPLACE FirstSearch. It provides a fresh new interface, mobile-optimized views and access to a lot more content. You choose how you use the service—as a new way to search WorldCat OR as a full discovery service. If you already have a discovery service, you may consider using the WorldCat Discovery API in beta to add results from other libraries’ collections to your user experience.
There are no additional costs to transition to using WorldCat Discovery. It is included as a part of your FirstSearch subscription.
PLAN YOUR TRANSITION TIMING
Many libraries plan to transition away from using FirstSearch to using WorldCat Discovery in the June-July-August timeframe. FirstSearch and WorldCat Discovery will operate in parallel from now through December 31, 2015, when access to FirstSearch ends.
FIRST STEP: REGISTER FOR WORLDCAT DISCOVERY
The first step to begin your transition to WorldCat Discovery is to REGISTER to receive your new custom WorldCat Discovery URL. With your new URL, you can begin trying the new service alongside FirstSearch, get comfortable, and choose your timing for when you “go live” with the new service for staff and end-users. If you’re thinking of a summertime transition (for North American libraries), you’ll want to register NOW. It’s a quick first step:
