NYLA SSL Conference
Rochester, New York
May 2025
I had a great experience at the 2025 SSL Conference! I was able to attend several worthwhile sessions that gave me new knowledge to bring back to my role. I enjoyed the session with author Ann M. Martin. I love hearing the author’s perspective and how they got the ideas for their stories. When teaching, I retell those stories to the students and they are always enthralled with this new knowledge of their favorite authors. I was also able to attend Spark a Love for Reading: A Year’s Worth of Proven Strategies for Promoting Literature in Your Library. This was extremely helpful for me to get new ideas to promote reading. I am transitioning to the High School next year and this session helped ease my worries of what the high school students enjoy. Finally, I presented with my fellow Librarians on Livestreaming Morning Announcements. We each presented our unique ways to do morning announcements. The session was well attended and we had several interested audience members with great questions. I feel that we were able to spark some creativity within the audience and convince the apprehensive ones to give it a try!
