CLRC’s Assistant Director, Déirdre Joyce, has been selected to participate in the 2016 cohort of the Archives Leadership Institute (ALI).
With 75 applicants vying for a position in the 2016 cohort at Berea College in Kentucky, the Institute has announced the names of the 25 archivists who will be participating this year. They hail from 18 states or provinces in North America, from Hawaii to Ontario, represent academic, government, corporate and non-profit institutions, and bring a wide variety of skills and experiences. More information on this year’s cohort may be found here: http://www.archivesleadershipinstitute.org/2016/02/announcing-archives-leadership.html
ALI is a program funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), a statutory body affiliated with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), and is being hosted at Berea College for the years 2016-2018. ALI provides advanced training for 25 archival leaders each year, giving them the knowledge and tools to transform the profession in practice, theory and attitude.
In addition to her role as Assistant Director, Deirdre directs the cultural heritage services of the Council for member libraries, archives, and museums. Before coming to Central New York (more than five years ago, now), she served as the University Archivist at The University of Texas at Tyler. Moreover, Déirdre currently serves as the Project Manager for the Empire Archival Discovery Cooperative (an IMLS SPARKS! grant recipient in 2015) and Project Coordinator for New York Heritage Digital Collections, both initiatives of the Empire State Library Network. Déirdre received her M.A. in History and an additional ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library and Information Studies with a Specialization in Archives and Records Management from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She is a member of SAA and MARAC.
As CLRC works to finalize its plan of service for the 2016-2021 cycle, Déirdre‘s work with the Institute will translate to significant benefits and enhanced archival services, both for CLRC members and for partner organizations across the region and the state.
