CLRC is happy to announce the addition of the first German-language newspaper to the New York Historic Newspapers site.
Syracuse University’s Bird Library provided reels of microfilm of the Syracuse Union, which were shipped to the Northern NY Library Network (NNYLN) for scanning and metadata creation. This was the project’s first experience with a German newspaper and using the German alphabet, so it was a learning experience for all. Some 416,000 pages of text were scanned and are now available at the Historic Newspaper site hosted at NNYLN.
If your library has runs of New York State historical newspapers on microfilm that you would like to digitize and make available, please visit https://rbshost.com/CLRC1/grants-awards/ to learn about our new Newspaper Digitization Assistance Program.
