This exhibit focuses on the impact of European immigration on all regions of New York State and the challenges faced by new arrivals. 10 portraits serve as the centerpiece, grounding the exhibit in indvidual experiences

Recognizing Women’s Right to Vote in New York State

This exhibit charts the development and evolution of the Women’s Suffrage movement in New York State. There’s a special focus on the precursors to the movement, its cultural impact, and detractors.

This exhibit documents the importance and lasting impact of the Erie Canal in shaping New York State and beyond. Special consideration is given to the canal’s cultural and intellectual legacy.

NEW: Urban Renewal in New York State

Themes: Urban Renewal; Public Housing; Housing Subsidies; Race Relations; Racism; Collective Trauma; Eminent Domain; Forced Migration; Segregation; African Americans; Puerto Ricans

Our newest exhibit explores the history and legacy of Urban Renewal in New York State. Ninety communities in the state had Urban Renewal projects, and while those projects promised to revitalize downtown areas and clear out slums, the program is often remembered as a traumatic period where the most vulnerable residents were stripped of their housing and private developers were given publicly subsidized deals on land grabs.

Messages From Survivors: One Family’s Holocaust Legacy

Themes:  Holocaust; Holocaust Survivors; World War II; Jewish History; Antisemitism; Fascism; Oral History; Family History; Laws, Restrictions, & Reactions; Legacy

This exhibit, which is on temporary loan from The Memory Project, introduces the Holocaust through powerful personal perspectives. By sharing stories from a family of survivors, “Messages from Survivors” aims to help combat Antisemitic stereotypes while transmitting messages they wished to convey to future generations.
