”After Earth’, starring Will Smith, will film in the Redwoods State Park, California April 23 – May 5

M. Knight Shyamalan is prepping to film his latest movie, After Earth,  in Weott, California this week.

After Earth recently wrapped filming at Sun Center Studios in Chester Township, Pennsylvania after spending a few weeks filming in Costa Rica.

Beginning Monday (4/23), the movie will shoot scenes in the Humbolt Redwoods State Park, in Weott, CA. According to the Times Standard, the shoot will take place “in some of the county’s old growth stands” through May 5.

The [filming] permits show that first and second unit crews will film during this time with at least three scenes being filmed by Shyamalan…Permits with the state park also offer an idea of the action that the forest will see over the next few weeks. It lists aerial stunts, minor pyrotechnics and a chase scene that includes actors swimming across the Eel River…The permits also say that Mattole Road may be closed for several minutes at a time during filming on certain days.

According to M. Knight Fans, the production will then “take a 3 week break and will start shooting in June in Utah for 6 days.”

After Earth, which stars Will and Jaden Smith, is set 1,000 years into the future and follows a young boy who navigates an abandoned Earth to save himself and his estranged father after their ship crashes.
