‘Oblivion’, starring Tom Cruise, begins filming in NYC this week

Tom Cruise’s new sci-fi movie Oblivion, which has been filming in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, LA since April, will move to New York City this week.

According to IMDb, the movie focuses on “a court martial who sends a veteran soldier to a distant planet where he is to destroy the remains of an alien race. The arrival of an unexpected traveler causes him to question what he knows about the planet, his mission, and himself.”

Oblivion is filming on the observation deck of the Empire State Building on Monday, June 11. There are No Parking Signs posted all around the building for Crater Lake Productions which we’ve learned are for Oblivion, so be sure be on the lookout for those signs around town too!

The signs outside the Empire State Building are for filming through Wednesday.

  1. We happened to be up there on the 86th floor yesterday. The set is blocked off by black panels. Security is tight. But we did get a glimpse of Tom Cruise as he went in the 86th floor lobby for a snack. We have him on video.

  2. Been watching the shoot at the entrance to the ESB outside my window all day. It’s a mob scene and strange repeated yelling. Sidewalk that side is all closed off and there are extras walking in a continuous loop…
