The Cherokee County town of Ball Ground, GA, located north of Atlanta, has been chosen as the location for Mena, the upcoming Doug Liman film that is set to star Tom Cruise.

The main filming locations for the movie will be on Gilmer Ferry Road, between Civic Drive and Old Canton Road, as well as other locations around the city, Cherokee County, Pickens County and Roswell. Filming is expected to begin in mid-May.

The movie tells the true story of Barry Seal, a pilot, gun runner and drug trafficker, who transported contraband for the CIA and the Medellin cartel during the 80s. The title refers to Mena, Arkansas, “where a lot of the illegal activity took place under the noses of Presidents Reagan and Bush and then-Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton.”

  1. Sad that the filming of Mena will not take place there. Mena, and the surrounding area, is very scenic and beautiful. Looking forward to seeing the movie though.

  2. This town of Ball Ground is a beautiful little place, close to a private airport. Secondly, it’s my undrstanding the residents of Meena did not want to live through this event again.Tom Cruise personally flew here only with the producer and chose this location himself.
