  1. L.A. on-location shooting slips in Q1

California’s bolstered tax credit program appears to be arriving just in time. On-location film production in Los Angeles and surrounding areas slipped 3.1 percent in the first quarter of 2015 to 8,707 shoot days, reported local film office FilmL.A. TV and commercial production were actually up slightly during the period, but those gains were offset by a big hit in feature film production, which dropped 15.4 percent compared to the same time frame a year ago to 926 shoot days.

The state is still operating on its $100 million-per-year tax credit program, though the budget will increase to $330 million starting later this year. In the meantime, features that qualified for the California State Film & Tax Credit Program generated only 42 feature film shoot days. Still, without these projects, feature levels would have been 4.5 percent lower. Incentive-qualified features that shot during the first quarter included “Drive, She Said,” “Message from the King,” “Scouts vs. Zombies” and “The Perfect Guy.”
