Stevie G At The VMAs and Information About How You Can Become A Seat Filler

Stevie G sent us some pictures from last month’s VMAs where he was lucky enough to be a seat filler during the ceremony! He was able to get pictures with Russell Brand (Host of VMA’s) and Katy Perry (who may or may not be dating), Whitney Port (The City), Frankie Delgado (The Hills), Stephanie Pratt (The Hills), John Stamos, Nicky Hilton, Jon Gosselin, Stacie Hall (The Hills),  Kristin Cavallari ( The Hills) and Sean Paul. Most of the pictures were taken outside, after the ceremony, though since they weren’t allowing cameras inside. (Thanks again to Steve for sharing them with us!)

So, what exactly is a seat filler and how can you become one?

Producers of the major award ceremonies (Oscars, Grammys, VMAs, etc.) don’t like there to be any empty seats in the first ten or so rows of the theater because they think it looks bad on camera, especially since those seats are usually reserved for VIPs. So, instead of letting the camera pan across a half empty room while the stars are schmoozing backstage, they have people who fill the seats until their rightful owners return.

There are several organizations where you can register to become a seat filler in both L.A. and NYC. Seat Fillers and More, Audiences Unlimited,  Seatfillers.com and 1 iota all accept applications for seat fillers year round. For some of these events, like the Oscars, the competition is stiff, you will need to send a resume and a head shot, but on the up side, these better “gigs” tend to be paid and offer the best star-gazing opportunities.
