  1. “INCEPTION” BASE CAMP LAY-OUT, OCT. 21-22, SPRING & 3RD STREETS, LOS ANGELES

OCT. 21 — It was a little bit past 11 p.m. when I found the base camp for the movie ‘Inception’ located on Spring and 3rd Streets in downtown L.A. After
driving around trying to analyze the situation, I drove through an alley to the left of the picture. The building next to the base camp was a parking structure and I drove in after seeing yellow “OA” signs pointing to the entrance. Once inside I was greeted by a parking attendant. Parking is $8, I was told. He asked me if I was an “OA” crew member and I instinctively said yes. OK, he said, and waved me through instructing me to find a spot anywhere to park.
I drove all the way to the 6th level rooftop where it was cold and very dark except for the orange helipad lights. I waited for any of the stars to come out of their trailers. First one I saw was Marion Cotillard, the French actress. She came from the make-up trailer and was walking back to her trailer.
Next was Leonardo DiCaprio, who came out of his trailer talking on his cell phone—unmindful of the production crew around him—and went into one of the make-up trailers.
About 5 minutes later, as if on cue, the drivers of the stars’ vehicles (see yellow numbers) got in their cars and started the engines. Cotillard came out and got into an SUV. She was followed by Ellen Page, who was being driven in a black Crown Victoria. And last, DiCaprio emerged from the make-up trailer, got into a black Hybrid Tahoe and was driven to the set.
I drove out of the parking structure around 12:40 a.m. and checked out the movie set, three blocks away. It seemed like an interior scene they were shooting, so I decided to head for home, which is 22 miles away.
