Chris Evans Confirmed for Captain America

Push Los Angeles Premiere

Chris Evans took a few days to think about whether he wanted to play the role of Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America. Evans is familiar in playing a superhero role – he was once Johnny Storm, known as the Human Torch, in the “Fantastic Four” movies. But playing the part of Captain America has bigger responsibilities – it’s a high-profile part.

Marvel and the Creative Artists Agency, which represents the actor, have not made the official announcement. But after much debate, sources say the actor has accepted Marvel’s offer for the big-screen role and negotiations moved quickly over the weekend.

The deal calls for Evans to star in at least three “Captain America” movies. He would be reprising his role in the movie “The Avengers”, set for a May 4th, 2012 movie release, as well as making a cameo appearance in other Marvel films.

Joe Johnston (“October Sky”) will direct the movie; Christopher Markus (“Prince Caspian”) and Stephen McFeely (“Prince Caspian”) wrote the script. Hugo Weaving (‘The Matrix’) will play the villain Red Skull.

“The First Avenger: Captain America” is scheduled to start filming in London in June of this year – with a release on July 22, 2011.

  1. MarvelFanatic, you make a good point. I’m sure it’ll be an okay film as long as his character isn’t similar to the other role he played. I’m not really familiar with MARVEL until they make it to the theaters.

  2. I’m sorry, but would it have been so hard to find an actor with a cleft chin? Like I’ve said before, without the chin, you might as well paint his ears blue.
