Last Wednesday, one of our readers, Tom, caught up with Kathie Lee Gifford at a signing for her new children’s book, “Party Animals”.
Here’s Tom’s full report and pics:
I decided to pick up bottle of Yellow Tail Riesling because Kathie calls Wednesday “Winesday” [on The Today Show]. I also know from watching The Today Show [where Kathie Lee is the fourth hour co-host] she like her wine “sweet and fruity”. When I arrived at the book signing I waited upstairs for 20 minutes for her to finish reading and playing her music to a group of small children gathered downstairs in the toy area of the store. When I approached her I said, “Happy Winesday! I didn’t want to come and see you empty handed”, and handed her the wine. She was very excited about my small gesture, she even yelled over to her assistant Christine to show her the wine. She thanked me several times and we started to take some pictures together, she decided to hold onto her wine and keep it in the photo..too funny!
I informed her that we had met 25 years ago at a charity Softball game for Cystic Fybrosis and told her that she hasn’t changed a bit and she told me that I look great too. I showed her a picture of me with her buddy Al Roker from the ‘Dressed to Kilt’ event last week. She said, “Wow! Al looks so svelte!” I told her that he looks great in a kilt too and we both laughed. I asked her to give the photo to Al and she said, “no problem, I’ll be seeing him in the AM.”
As we walked out together she made sure she that wine went with her and thanked me again outside and wanted to take one more pic of us together. I told her ”make sure you drink that wine on the show next Winesday,” and she said ”Honey..I’m going to drink this tomorrow!” She kissed my cheek goodbye and hopped into her waiting black sedan.
She really looks great in person and she seems like a lot of fun, too bad we had to end our date so early!
