Janet Jackson and Whoopi Goldberg started filming the latest feature film from Tyler Perry, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf” in New York City this week.

The movie is based on the 1975 play of the same name by Ntozake Shange. The play is a series of 20 poems performed by 7 nameless women, known only by a color, i.e. “Lady in Yellow”, “Lady in Purple”, etc. The poems deal with love, abandonment, rape, and abortion. In the end, the play brings together all of the women for “a laying on of hands,” where Shange evokes the power of womanhood as the Lady in Red begins the mantra “I found God in myself/ and I loved her/ I loved her fiercely.”

No parking signs for a project simply listed as, “Colored Girls”, were spotted on 120th – 123rd Streets and along Morningside Ave in NYC for 6.4 & 6.5.

You can see photos of Janet on the set here and pics of Whoopi here.
