The Future of ‘Sex and the City’

SATC2 Sarah Jessica Parker 3The ‘Sex and the City’ Franchise may be coming to an end after 6 seasons and two blockbuster movies.

While opening weekend was all glitz and glam followed by fan frenzy on the red carpet, it appears that box office sales failed to translate.  SATC2, which ranked third opening weekend, pulled in $20 million less than the original which made $57 mil.  If a bigger budget to smaller profit ratio wasn’t bad enough, the reviews ultimately sealed the fate for a SATC trilogy.

It appears that the women of Sex and the City will be hanging up their Manolos indefinitely.  Although Sarah Jessica Parker had hopes that Carrie would live on, telling UsMagazine at the Tokyo premiere that “[Carrie] will live on, even if the movies don’t.”

Below are pictures from the NYC premiere of ‘Sex and the City 2’  as well as a guide to what the future holds for the cast members.

Thanks again to Howard for sending in these amazing photos.

    • Thanks for the correction, that was a major oversight, but don’t worry the rest of the information is accurate. I originally meant to write 12 years on air (including syndication) which is an impressive run, but 6 seasons is more to the point.

  1. SATC WILL live on for me. The girls are forever embedded in the hearts of millions of devoted fans, regardless of what the movie grossed! I cannot imagine a “film or TV future” without Carrie and Big. Maybe we need a movie that mainly involves the two of them? The “sex” of SATC was NOT my favorite part, but the two of them were~! When “Samantha” came on, I usually turned my head or turned down the sound. Sorry. The main character, Carrie, is the heart of the show. Her thoughts and feelings, her dreams and ponderings. Those universal situations we all shared with her will never end. SJP may go on to do other great things. She’s a lovely, gifted talent, but, for me, she is Carrie, just as Lucille Ball was LUCY and she simply cannot leave us!
