In Photos: Gerard Butler on the set of ‘Machine Gun Preacher’

Thanks to Heather who sent us these pictures from the set of Machine Gun Preacher in West Bloomfield, MI on Thursday, July 8.

As you can see from the photos, the movie’s star, Gerard Butler, was filming scenes for the movie at a local home. In this true story, Gerry plays Sam Childers, a former drug-dealer who became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children forced to become soldiers.

See more photos of Gerard after the jump.

On Monday, July 12,  it looks like Machine Gun Preacher will be filming at Jake’s Crossroads Bar & Grill in Melvindale, MI. If you spot Gerry in Michigan this summer, let us know about it at olv@onlocationvacations.com!

  1. I love his hair and just the way he looks in these. Back to Timeline days. He looks great in short hair too, but the puffyness in his cheeks seems gone finally.
I really want to see this one. I bet he’ll personall start helping with the schools too. Great guy for the part. I need to read the books now to find out more about what will be in the movie.
I think we (fans) have been waiting for him to get a better meatier part to show his talents for quite a while. This looks like it.

  2. This is a huge story and Gerry is more than capable of bringing to the screen the facts of this hero. Can’t wait to see it, at last a story with the courage of a modern day Leonidas. Beautiful.

Love it Gerry. Sealbh math dhuibh!

  3. Here’s to a terrific storyline, Machine Gun Preacher, can hardly wait to see this one, and here’s to you, Mr.Gerard Butler, a terrific actor, such a pleasure to watch you put heart and soul into each role you play, yet you make them all look so easy because of your great natural talent and love for acting. You are so magnetic to watcb, on screen or off….I have a complete collection of your movies on DVD and I treasure each and every one of them. I know your beloved Scotland is very happy to claim you as their own, you are a true and genuine sweetheart….no other quite like you….I send you my love always.

  4. Saw Gerry shooting on Wednesday at Red Holman Buick in Westland. He was very nice to everyone watching and I did get him to sign my GerardButler.net charity cookbook for Kids Kicking Cancer which is a local charity he is involved in. I think this is a movie that needs to be told and may be hard to watch when he gets to the African atrocities. Nice to see so many Michigan crew guys working on the film.

  5. How in the lord’s Holy name can this incredible man get more handsome everyday??????? I LOVE the longer hair, and that oh so sexy beard. BUT…anything Gerry is, does or will do is OKAY with me. I am so proud of him doing this movie to help this wonderful Rev. Childers with this incredibly dangerous missinon he has undertaken. Gerry will do an awesome job portraying Rev, Childers as he always does an awesome job in each and every role he undertakes. Gerry is such an incredibly giving and caring man. Dear God, please bless our Gerry!!!

  6. I heard a rumor that Gerard is going to be shooting scenes in Oxford at the gravel pits. Does anyone know if that’s true and if so, when!? HE IS SOOOO HOTTT!!!

  7. I think the fact that Mr Butler has the courage to do a film like this is amazing! This film will have a major impact on the plight of these Sudanese children, and bring their situation to the forefront in the world’s eye. Thank you for doing a film like this Mr. Butler! The fact that you have been so blessed in life, both physically and mentally, and that you have the wisdom, grace and heart to use those blessing for others is a spiritual walk that is powerful. This is the first time I have ever bothered posting something, especially about an actor’s work, but you have most certainly touched me by your willingness to stand out from amoung the rest. I hope that one day I will have an opportunity to meet you myself and to say thank you. I do love much of your work that I have seen and I will look forward to Machine Gun Preacher coming out in the cinema soon.

  8. Ruth, no offense but Gerry looks great any which way you slice him, puffy cheeks, thin cheeks, he would make a potato sack look like fine dining. Im just saying, wow he is delicious and he is an awesome actor. He was award winning in LAC and everything else for that matter.

  9. As far as I’m concerned there is no other actor than Gerard Butler. He is the only on e I’m interested in ,and as far as I’m concerned the only one worth watching. His face is beautiful so is his body. I think he has a heart to to be able to help that preacher. That should bring in some money for his cause. Nobody ever told that story before. People will want to see it if they know that Gerard Butler is in it. Men and women love him. I know I certainly do.God Bless you Gerard Butler,I know he already has.Love you.

  10. When I read the plight of those children I couldn’t believe what those poor children are going threw.Imagine haveing to kill your mother.and all those terrible atrocities.I can’t believe people can be so cruel. What has happened to us? Thank God their is people left in the world like Sam Childers and Gerard Butler who thnks his story is important enough to bring to us. Both Gerard Butler and Sam Childers have wonderful hearts. No one had ever say a word to me about Gerard Butler. I loved him before, and now I really admire him. I know that if people like this still exist than there is hope for the world.

  11. The fact that GB is taking this project is inspiring. I am confident that his performance will bring the truth out at last! This is close to my heart because of past experience in the family. Be assured forcing children into the army did not only happen in Sudan. Although the consistency and brutality in which these children were treated will leave numb and angry. I pray GB illuminates the screens with the passion that he showed in the Tilman character. I cannot wait for this storey to be told. It will open up a lot of past hurts and I know when ones child diisappears with no trace of proof of live, it leaves an empty crater in your heart. Give it and make it your best yet GB, your are very skilled and you have mastered your craft. Bring that riveting, enchanting, captivating and charming energy to the screen. We will be in your corner.

  12. dudes…..Gerard Butler is the awesomest, mother f***er in the world!!!!
