Attention All Muggles!

With yesterday’s release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix as well as the new book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows due out next week, it seems everywhere we turn someone is talking about wizards and muggles.  So what better time to look at the filming locations used in the Harry Potter films?

There are several companies now offering guided tours to the movies’ filming locations.  One company, British Tours, offers Harry Potter Location Tours to London, Oxford, and Gloucester. The Oxford & Gloucester tour is 10 hours long and visits locations at Oxford as well as the Cathedral of Gloucester.  The London tour can be done in 3 or 7 hours and visits King’s Cross Station (Platform 9 3/4) as well as Leadenhall Market and Borough Market.  If you are looking for a guided tour, this seems like the best deal.

If you want to track down locations on your own, there are several websites that provide information about locations and how to find them. Here is a list of the best sites we have found:

Destinations UK

This site offers information on filming locations that include Alnwick Castle, Lacock Abbey, and Bodleian Library.

Rick Steve’s Harry Potter Film Sights

This site gives you the location of Harry’s Aunt and Uncle’s house, the classroom where Harry learns how to wave his wand, the location of the film’s premiere and so much more. It is definitely worth a look.
