While watching last night’s Golden Globes Red Carpet I couldn’t help but think of one of our long time readers, Susan, who has attended dozens of movie premieres and has had great luck meeting celebs along the red carpet. Susan recently shared some of her experiences and photos with OLV. Check out whose she’s met recently and how it all went down:
I attended the Yogi Bear premiere in Westwood on December 11, 2010 and met Justin Timberlake, Dan Akroyd, Anna Faris, and Tom Cavanaugh. My daughter was able to get a picture with Justin Timberlake while I asked him and he had to go. All of them were very nice although Justin had a couple of big burly bodyguards with him and one of them pushed my daughter toward him when she asked for a picture. We also attended the Jellystone pre-party where all the stars of the movie & other celebs were hanging out. In the lobby of the theater we saw Justin’s bodyguard guarding the men’s restroom so we waited for him to come out (along with very other fan). Again I grabbed his arm for pic and he said, “I have to go watch a movie”, LOL…so no pic again.
I then attended the How Do You Know premiere which was 2 days later on December 13, 2010 at the same theater in Westwood. There were sooo many people there that the premiere was held in 2 theaters. I did see Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon & Paul Rudd but was not able to meet them. They were overly protected but I did get a few pix of them from afar. I really enjoyed the movie and next door to the theater was the after party that looked like the reception for a prince & a princess.
My daughter & I stood in the rain for 3 hours to get into the Gulliver’s Travels premiere on December 18, 2010 at Graumans Chinese Theater in Hollywood. We saw Jack Black introduce the movie and run down the middle of the theater giving the fans high-fives. He was wearing a red tee which said “I LOVE SMALL PEOPLE”. We did meet Jason Segal after the movie and a few other celebs. My daughter saw Emily Blunt but the security was really tight. The movie is highly recommended especially for families with young children.
This has been a great year of premieres for us. We attended the 3 above and Shrek Forever, How to Train Your Dragon, Flipped, Letters to Juliet, Dear John, Red, Love and Other Drugs, and a few others.
We also attended the Blue Carpet premiere of Avatar (which was in Dec. 2009) and saw & met so many celebs it made my head spin. I have never seen so many stars in one night at one movie premiere!
Last week, I attended the world premiere of No Strings Attached in Westwood. The movie was fun and Ashton & Natalie were fantastic. I did see them both and they did sign a few autographs but only took a few pix with the fans (not me sadly). Although one girl I know got a pic with Natalie Portman because she let her cut in line in the bathroom! But I did meet a few other stars like Rumer Willis, Kat Denning, Mindy Kaling, Tia Carrere & Ludacris and took some pix of Demi & Ashton not with them….Demi said no to the fans who asked.
It is really hard to speak with the stars at the premieres. They don’t mind taking pictures but so many people are waiting to take a pic with them that they don’t have time to talk to the fans.
When we asked Susan which celeb she thought was the friendliest of all the celebs she’s been lucky enough to meet she told us, “I found Jon Hamm to be very nice. He introduced himself to me (like I didn’t know who he was…lol). Asked my name, shook hands and struck up a conversation and then took a pic w/ me. This was at an Emmy’s awards show. Also, I have met Ryan Seacrest 3 times and twice he hugged me & once he kissed me on the cheek. And took a pic w/ my daughter at Disneyland!”
And though Susan said she hasn’t encountered many rude celebs, she did point out that their handlers can sometimes be short with fans.
We haven’t encountered a “rude” celebrity. Their assistants or the people with the stars are usually very short and very rude. I was standing across from Sly Stallone & his wife at the red premiere of The Expendables in the Grauman’s Chinese Theater lobby so I nicely asked this lady if I could take a picture with him and she said “NO, NO WAY!” My mistake, I should have asked him directly but I became really nervous and his beautiful wife looked at me like I was insane! Then I saw Bruce Willis across the way and asked his “person” and she said “NO!!!” I met John Malkovich that night too and he took a quick picture and I put my arm around him and his lady or date (not sure) pulled my arm off of him and threw it down. Needless to say that pic didn’t come out too clear. Also, we saw Cameron Diaz at the Shrek 3 premiere, my daughter almost got picture with her but she had 6 bodyguards around her and one of them put a chokehold on me in the theater lobby. I got a pic of her but not w/ her, although my daughter Savanna did get a picture with Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas!
Finally, Susan said, “Sometimes we are lucky and sometimes not. But overall we have had lots of stories to share and interesting experiences with every celebrity encounter!” That sounds like pretty good advice for anyone hoping to meet a celebrity: sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t, but it can always be as great an experience as you choose to make it!
Thanks again to Susan for sharing her red carpet stories and be sure to check out her photos below! If you want to be one of our featured readers, let us know at olv@onlocationvacations.com!
