‘Contagion’ crowd scene will include 1000 extras in San Francisco’s Candlestick Park

Thousands attended the open casting call in San Francisco this past weekend for the movie Contagion and it sounds like most of them will be needed.

According to the San Francisco Gate, several scenes for the movie will be shot in San Francisco, including one in a coffee shop, one in Chinatown and another with more than 1,000 people at Candlestick Park. The scenes will be shot starting Feb. 9, culminating with the crowd scene being shot on Feb. 16.

Rich King, who is handling casting for the movie, told the potential extras, “There’s a big scene at Candlestick Park where we save or don’t save you. I can’t tell you.” The movie is about the spread of a deadly disease and the CDC scientists tasked with containing it.

Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, and Jude Law star in the film, though Law is the only one who has been confirmed for the San Francisco scenes. The movie has already shot in Chicago, Atlanta, Geneva and Hong Kong.

  1. Was out of town and missed the extras sign in but am very interested ..do you still need any extras. My friend and I are very interested.

  2. No one to call as far as I know. The die has already been cast. Those who showed up for the casting call will be in the crowd during filming.

  3. I got casted as an extra and we filmed last sunday in the SF chronical offices with Jude Law within 10 feet from me. I was one of 30 extras in the scene and I’m one of the reporters in the background in one of the cubicles. It was fantastic and everyone this was extremely professional and I can absolutely see this movie being one of the best films of 2011.
