Skippy’s Sundance Recap

Last week, one of our newest contributors, Scott ‘Skippy’ Jessop, sent us a report from Sundance letting us know which celebs were there worth meeting, and how to meet them. This week, he’s sent us a wrap up of his time at the fest and his report on who was great, and who wasn’t.

Sundance ended on a good note both for the festival and for me. A bunch of awards were given out Saturday night but the one I hope the most people pay attention to is the Audience Award for Best Documentary. Audience awards in general are the only ones I care about because fans pick. This year Buck won. Buck is the documentary about the guy who The Horse Whisperer is based on. Buck Brannaman trains horses like people should be trained to treat each other. Go see Buck.

Personally my final few days were rough until Friday night. Understand this about Sundance, they front load the festival with all of the movies. Wednesday and Thursday are a ghost town if you’re looking to meet celebs. Literally I saw 5 stars both days combined including Robert Redford but he doesn’t stop for fans. Ever. The final Friday of the festival they give us one big star studded premiere. This year it was The Son of No One with Channing Tatum, Katie Holmes, Ray Liotta and Al Pacino. Al never showed but the other 3 did. Katie never stopped but Channing and his actress wife (Jenna Dewan) did and they were AWESOME!

Just after that premiere, Sundance had a bonus final film (usually they don’t do this but man was I glad they did) with Patrick Dempsey called Flypaper. Patrick showed up, took bunches of pics, welcomed the audience and didn’t stay for the Q and A after. Flypaper is this generation’s Clue. It was wall to wall funny. If they could have left out the “F” word it would be a PG-13 max but Hollywood loves unnecessary profanity.

My biggest celeb gets this year were Ashton, Demi, Patrick Dempsey, Channing Tatum, Andie Macdowell, James Franco , and Rita Wilson. But my favorite to talk to were Nick Kroll, Rutger Hauer, Maria Menounos, Fred Stoller, Danny Glover and Buck Brannaman.

Everyone asks me who the biggest jerk was and this year it was EASY to say Alan Arkin. He’s a crabby old man who never plays a happy person because he’s not one.

OK, well until next year GO SEE BUCK.

Skippy out!

  1. My first time to your blog! …Love the self portraits with celebs. You’ve got that down pat! What brought me here? Buck. I’ve been to a few of his clinics and he has greatly influenced my horse and my life for the better!
He’s a great, humble, real guy. Glad you got to meet him. 🙂

  2. FYI Patrick Dempsey didn’t stay for the Q & A because he flew in from Daytona for the premiere, and took the red eye back to race in the Daytona 24 on Sat. and had a podium finish with a 3rd in GT.
