Highlights from South by Southwest

This year’s edition of South by Southwest may be over, but the festival had many buzzworthy moments, especially when it comes to films.

It featured the premiere of the highly anticipated Jordan Peele’s Us, with Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Tim Heidecker, and Elisabeth Moss in the cast. The movie was extremely well received by the critics and the audience, and will probably follow the success of 2017’s Get Out, also by Jordan Peele.

The cast talked a bit about the film on the red carpet, without revealing too much:

Us will be released on Friday, March 22.

Two other movies that premiered at SXSW made headlines. The first one is Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut Booksmart, starring  Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, Billie Lourd, Jessica Williams, Will Forte, Lisa Kudrow, and Jason Sudeikis.

Set to be released on May 24, it follows the story of two girls who are about to graduate high school and realize they didn’t really enjoy their time there, since they were always studying. So they decide to do it all in one night (the eve of their graduation).

The second movie highly praised is Long Shot, a romantic comedy starring Seth Roger and Charlize Theron, in which her character is the Secretary of State who is running for president and hires a speech writer (Seth Rogen’s character).

The screening was followed by a surprise performance by Boyz II Men.

Long Shot will hit theaters on May 3, 2019.

South by Southwest ran from March 8 to March 17, 2019, and featured many other panels. You can see more videos here.
