Updated: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’: Scouting locations in Michigan, Joseph Gordon-Levitt joins the cast, Robin’s hideout, and more

Updates on The Dark Knight Rises seem to be coming fast and furious this week, but of course we’re most interested in the news that location scouts have been searching Michigan for potential filming locations.

According to Michigan State Senator Rick Jones, “A film company is investigating Grand Ledge for filming a new Batman movie. They looked at Fitzgerald Park, The Grand Ledge water treatment plant, and the underground vault area.”

So does this mean that Michigan is a sure thing? No, not exactly. Warner Bros. also scouted locations in New Orleans last fall but since that time sources say director Christopher Nolan decided to pass on the Louisiana location. It seems that Warner Bros is trying to keep as many options as possible open for Nolan, which means scouting locations that will never actually be used in the filming.

The good news is, it seems that Michigan is at least still in the running. Keep your fingers crossed MI!

Last weekend, Nolan was honored at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival too where he briefly touched on the movie’s filming schedule, saying, “We’re about 12 weeks away from shooting. We start in May.”

Though Nolan is being coy, his long time cinematographer, Wally Pfister, has offered up much more information about the script, saying it is “phenomenal”, and about one of the movie’s stars, Anne Hathaway. [Anne] looks phenomenal in the wardrobe. I can’t really say [much more], but I definitely want to be around next year,” he told reporters. As for the rumors that Robin Williams was joining the cast, Pfister said he hadn’t heard of that before but “they could turn around and surprise me too. It’s happened before.”

In other casting new, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is expected to reunite with his Inception director in The Dark Knight Rises, though it is unknown what his role would be.

Are you getting as excited as we are for The Dark Knight Rises to actually start filming?

Update:

An article from WILX is making the rounds this weekend after they posted the following about what exactly location scouts have been looking for in Michigan:

They looked at the Ledges as well as a water treatment plant located inside the park. Sources say the area is being considered as a hideout for Batman sidekick Robin.

Of course the possibility of Robin appearing in The Dark Knight Rises has set the internet on fire. What do you think? Would Robin be a good addition to the movie?
