‘Detention of the Dead’ wraps filming in Michigan, receives film credit from state

Just days before the zombie flick Detention Of The Dead wrapped filming in Michigan, the state awarded the project $139,118 in film incentives.

Though the movie had a small budget, it brought together an all-star teen cast including Jayson Blair (The Hard Times of RJ Berger), Jacob Zachar (Greek), Justin Chon (The Twilight Saga), Alexa Nikolas (Zoey 101), and Max Adler (Glee).

“At it’s core Detention Of The Dead a huge tribute to John Hughes and all those ’80s films like The Breakfast Club,” Blair recently said. “The characters are really, really, really modeled after all the characters in The Breakfast Club, but with Zombies in a comedy sort of fashion.”

“I play Brad and I am the jock, go figure,” Blair joked. “And I’m the antithesis to the other lead. Jake Zachar’s playing Eddie, and he’s like the dorky kid, comes to school with a serious purpose that we find out later, and I’m the antithesis to him so there’s a lot of struggle there.”

The film  was shot at various locations in Oakland County including Pontiac for 20 days last month, wrapping on May 29th.

“This project is a local, Michigan production that is a great representation of the film talent we have here in the state,” said Carrie Jones, director of the Michigan Film Office. “In addition to hiring Michigan workers, the project has forged a training partnership with Oakland University’s Cinema Studies program, as well as Pontiac High School, to enable students to acquire on-the-job experience in all aspects of feature film production. These types of innovative partnerships are critical in helping to grow our state’s crew and talent base.”

The movie is about a group of high school students trapped in detention with fellow students who have been turned into zombies.
