Morgan Freeman makes a fan’s day on the set of ‘Summer At Dog Dave’s’

On Friday one of our readers, Miles, took a road trip up to Greenwood Lake, NY where Morgan Freeman is currently filming the movie Summer At Dog Dave’s, about a wheelchair-bound author who moves to a rural town where he befriends a single mother and her three kids.

The movie has been base camped at Elm St and Windermere Ave, but has been filming at various locations around the lake for the past few weeks. It took Miles a while to find Morgan, but once he did, it was worth it!

Check out Miles’ story about Morgan below:

I had a great time up at the set of Summer at Dog Dave’s. The first hour I spent driving around town, locating trailers and trying to find the set. Haddad’s trailers are literally scattered all over. But I finally found the set on Myrtle St in a 45 home village on the water.

I went back and forth between the trailers and the set hoping for a glimpse of anything. After another hour, a man who looked like Freeman rolls up in a Ford Focus smoking a cigarette…I had to make a triple take but it turned out to be Morgan’s double who, after talking to him, said that he goes with Morgan on every movie he does. Anyway, he ended up telling me filming on location started at 1 pm but he didn’t know when Morgan would show up. So I hung out by the set for another little while and soon enough, Morgan rolled up in small white car. He was whisked right onto set and before I could get a word out, he was in a shot ..”ROLLING!!”

So I ended up waiting another 3-4 hour for them to break for dinner. He came out to get back into the car and ended up getting into a conversation with me which was absolutely mind-blowing. I told him how long I had waited, and he agreed to take a picture [with me] which was so cool. My favorite thing of all was that as he was getting into the car, he turns to me and says in that legendary voice, “Be careful how far you go to meet an actor like myself, you should go out and meet a scientist hahaha”.

I was in a state of shock at how cool he was. His handler also took my photo to dinner with them, and brought it back signed with them in an hour. What an amazing day! Thanks to Christine and OLV for the opportunity!

Thanks to Miles for sharing his story!

Before Miles decided to drive up to the set we had talked about how difficult Morgan has been to track down. We”ve heard about a few locals who haven’t even spotted him yet, and others who have been turned down for photos, so it was exciting to hear that Miles had such a great experience!

  1. I took a ride up here yesterday looking to catch something. Near the lake, off of Windemere, I spotted a couple of trailers and a street that was closed to all but local traffic. I figured I was close to the action and wanted to park and go on the prowl. But a GL patrol car was staked out and was watching me. With my out of state plates, I decided not to pursue it.

  2. i am so proud of having MY town being chosen by Mr. Reiner for his film!…..Mr. Freeman doesn’t mix and mingle much, but Mr Reiner strikes me as a big, cuddly, teddy bear….and approachable.

i have some nice pics of filming if anyone is interested

today they we’re filming inside a local grocery store…..they are using our town with no frills, and i am proud of that……..so proud of the Village of Greenwood Lake and so appreciataive of Mr. Reiner chosing us……..THANKS!
