Catch Jesse Eisenberg staring in ‘Ascuncion’ Off Broadway, and maybe get to meet him too!

On Sunday, one of our contributors, Denise, went to see Jesse Eisenberg’s Off Broadway play Asuncion. She told us, “I really enjoyed the play and this theater (Cherry Lane) is small and intimate so there are no bad seats. All the actors were great, I especially liked [Eisenberg’s co-star] Justin Bartha’s performance.”

The play, which Eisenberg also wrote, “centers on two friends who view themselves as open-minded liberals – one blogs about American imperialism; the other is finishing a PhD in Black Studies – and how those self-perceptions are challenged when a young Filipina woman becomes their new roommate.”

After the show, Denise stuck around to meet Jesse and Justin. She added, “I was determined to stick around to see them leave and get my playbill signed. I must say Jesse is tied with Jim Parsons for being the nicest celeb I’ve encountered so far. People were surrounding him asking for autographs and asking to pose for pics and he accommodated everyone! He was so nice and gracious and chatted with people while signing. After a while I started to feel bad for him like he was never going to be able to get away. A while after this Justin Bartha came out and even though he signed my playbill, he didn’t seem as friendly. Most people left at this time and I felt weird just taking his picture with no other fans around so I didn’t bother. Anyway, I highly recommend the play to anyone out there and it’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants to meet Jesse or Justin or any of the small cast. It’s a very low key theater on a quiet street so it’s easy to just hang out and chat with them afterwards.”

Check out a few of Denise’s photos below and be sure to let us know if you meet a celebrity after a Broadway show!

  1. I just met him a little more than a half hour ago. He was lovely, and even took another picture with me when I asked since the first one came out blurry. I love Jesse. A dream come true — and I LOVED the play!
