Is this the first casting call for ‘Captain Phillips’ in Massachusetts?

Earlier this week we posted a story about the upcoming movie Captain Phillips, starring Tom Hanks, and the recent rumors that the movie would spend some time filming in Massachusetts this year.

Captain Phillips was originally going to be shot in New Orleans but, due to logistical issues, they chose to change locations. Then, last week, location scouts were spotted in Framingham, MA looking for a home to use in the film.

There were also rumors this week that CP Casting in Boston was handling extras for the movie during a possible March shoot, and today they posted the following casting call:

CP Casting is seeking:

Current OR former MERCHANT MARINES, 25-70, all ethnicities
for work in a movie in the Boston area in MARCH.

You would need to be available to come to Boston and be put on tape
and also available for the shoot for a few days in March.

Please EMAIL: merchantcasting@gmail.com
Include your Merchant Marine experience, age, and your availability from now until April.

Considering the movie is about real life ship captain Richard Phillips, who allowed himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates in exchange for the safety of his crew before being dramatically rescue, it sounds like this casting could be a good fit for this film.

If you have any scoop about the movie or it’s filming locations, let us know at olv@onlocationvacations.com!

  1. I am a 66 year old native Cape Codder,I am not Merchant Mariner however, I do have extensive experience in pleasure boat operation and the sea . I have a white beard, hair and mustache and have been told that I may not have been born on a boat, but i do “look the part”.

    Thank You

  2. My son Tommaso MMA cadet 1/c senior year may have the acumen and character you may be looking for to play a part in your movie.
