Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ begins filming at the Evergreen Plantation in Louisiana on Monday

Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained recently wrapped in Wyoming, after spending time in Santa Clarita and Mammoth Lakes, CA, and is prepping to move to its next location.

On Monday (2/27), Django Unchained will move to the New Orleans area for the duration of the shoot, and rumor has it the Evergreen Plantation will be the movie’s first filming location in Louisiana.

According to a post on the historic site’s website, “Evergreen Plantation will be closed to the public Thursday, February 23rd, Friday the 24th and then February 27th thru March 10, 2012 for the filming of a major motion picture. Highway 18, in front of Evergreen will be closed February 27 thru March 9. We hope you will enjoy seeing Evergreen Plantation in this new motion picture.”

The plantation, which is located in Edgard, outside of New Orleans, would be a perfect location for the movie which centers around a slave-turned-bounty hunter (Django) who sets out to rescue his wife from Calvin Candie, a brutal Mississippi plantation owner. The schedule fits as well, assuming Thursday and Friday were for set up and filming begins on Monday.

Django Unchained stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jamie Foxx.

  1. Has anyone tried going to the Django Unchained set in New Orleans yet? I’d love to know how close you can get and if anyone has met any of the cast or crew. I’m thinking about driving an hour and a half down there. Thanks in advance!

  2. I was eating dinner Tuesday, Feb 28th at Drago’s in New Orleans and saw Quentin Tarantino. Looks like he was getting a bite to eat also. I didn’t get to meet him though, I noticed him as he was walking out of the restaurant.

  3. I was at the Hornets game last Friday when they played the Mavericks and I saw both Jamie Foxx and Samuel L Jackson. I also saw Samuel L Jackson again on Sunday at the zoo. Do they ever actually work?!? Ha.

  4. Omg! Leonardo DiCaprio was just here wanting cucumbers out the garden. heehee 🙂 He’s learning to ride horses at the stable next door. WOW!! Oh and my neighbor said Samuel L Jackson and Jamie Foxx was here too. Welcome to the countryside!! We are glad to have y’all.

  5. It is with the fondest of memories that my family and I had the opportunity to wonder the grounds of Evergreen Plantation in a private showing and educational manor on several occasions, learn the history by my friend who grew up on the plantation. Gave living rememberences of what life was really like on a plantation both for himself (his family owned the plantation) and for the people who spent their lives working the plantation not just as slaves .. but as freepersons as well. I sit and view our memories in pictures of the main house, the slave quarters, the cook house, the pidgonnairs, the barns .. the fields where I learned my first about “sugar cane”. We learned so much from him and so different than a boy from Brooklyn would have imagined. Many thanks to Don Becnell and his wife for shareing their lives and experiences with us.
