‘Grown Ups 2’ continues securing filming locations in Swampscott and Marblehead, MA

This weekend Sande Alessi Casting will hold an Open Casting Call in Boston for Grown Ups 2, which is expected to shoot in Massachusetts between May 21 and August 17, and hopefully the production will have an easier time finding extras than they’ve had finding locations.

The movie, which s a follow up to Adam Sandler’s 2010 film Grown Ups, has been making headlines in the towns of Swampscott and Marblehead, MA, where the movie will be primarily shot, as they’ve been negotiating to secure locations for filming.

When the production company approached Swampscott about filming in their historic Railroad Depot, members of the Historical Commission decided to try to get them to fix up the building in exchange for use of the historic structure. “We can ask them to fix it – the flashing (of the chimney) repaired, looking at windows, glazing … we could see if they could make a donation,” said Commission Chairperson Susan Munafo. There’s still no word if they’ll get the repairs they’re hoping for.

In Marblehead, producers withdrew their request to use the high school football field as a filming site because too many people int he community objected to them digging up the field to build the pool they needed.

But, luckily, Grown Ups 2 has received less resistance from other potential filming locations in both Marblehead and Swampscott.

According to location scouts for the film, at least half of the sequel will be shot in Marblehead, and 25 percent in Swampscott. The rest of the film will be shot on the North Shore. Filming locations have already been secured in Old Town, downtown, at the Marblehead middle school, and at a house in Marblehead Neck. In Swampscott, producers plan to spend four days filming inside the middle school in late May and June. Also scenes are planned at the commuter rail station on Railroad Avenue.

  2. Why dont they just use a pool @ One of the local area colleges or something? Why dont they film at Water Country in portsmouth New Hampshire or Boston University. Theyhave a nice olympic sized pool at BU they could use. There’s several other town pools they could use, why do they need to build a pool?

  3. It’s a shame you don’t have a donate button! I’d definitely donate to this excellent blog! I guess for now i’ll settle for book-marking and adding your RSS feed to my Google account. I look forward to fresh updates and will share this site with my Facebook group. Talk soon!
