Tom Hanks set to film scenes for ‘Captain Phillips’ in Virginia Beach in June

Yesterday Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell announced a portion of the upcoming movie Captain Phillips will be shot in Virginia.

The movie, which stars Tom Hanks as Captain Richard Phillips who was take hostage by Somali pirates before being dramatically recused by Navy SEALs, has already shot scenes in Massachusetts and is currently filming in Europe.

The Virginia portion of filming is expected to take place in Virginia Beach from June 15-June 30.

“For its proximity and accessibility to the Atlantic Ocean, and as a vital base for the U.S. Navy, we look forward to filming in Virginia,” said director Paul Greengrass.

  1. Can’t wait to find out more details about this. Iron Man 3 while I’m in Cary and Captain Phillips as soon as I get back home. Will be nice when/if we find out more about Captain Phillips tapings.
