‘Iron Man 3’ crews already setting up at their next location in Wilmington

As filming winds down in Cary, the cast and crew of Iron Man 3 already have their eye on their next filming location in North Carolina.

A permit request has been issued for Caged (the working title of Iron Man 3) for filming 6/14, 6/15, 6/18, 6/21, 6/22 & 7/6 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am at National Gypsum, 838 Sunnyvale Drive, Wilmington, N.C.

The shoot will include “exterior building scenes involving special effects and stunts.” Three main cast members are expected to take part in the shoot, along with 91 extras.

According to WWAY, crews are already setting up at the location and it appeared to have an “Asian architectural theme.”

  1. I’m guessing that unlike the sets in Cary, this is going to be pretty inaccessible to the public, am I right?
This is really a bummer for me, because I’m taking a vacation to Raleigh for pretty much all of those days, and I had hoped to take my grandpa, who is a huge fan of all the marvel movies, over to the set just to check it out.
Any chance that they’re doing any other filming besides this during this time or is this it?
Thanks for this website, it’s been a such a big help and so much fun to hear what’s going on.

    • Well they are “decorating” the outside of the building and according to the news article, the permit is for, “exterior building scenes involving special effects and stunts”.

      • I guess I just assumed from the way they said they were blocking off some traffic and the fact that this place doesn’t exactly look like the type of place you can say you just happen to be there while they happened to be filming.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that they have something planned for the 19th and 20th, since those dates aren’t listed up there.
        Thanks for your help.

    • I drove by on the 18th with my grandpa, managed to park on the other side of the road, security was very nice to us, told us we could take pictures as long as we stayed on that side. But there wasn’t really a whole lot to see honestly, there was a hollywood tours bus that probably confirms the LA tourist theory, green screens and some cranes.
I’m just glad I got to take my grandpa to the set, he was so thrilled.
