Happy Halloween!  All month we have featured a location from one of our favorite scary movies in honor of our favorite holiday, Halloween!

This week’s location is the gas station seen in the 1974 classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which was filmed in and around Austin, TX. Located at 1073 Hwy 304 in Bastrop County, this famous station is now Bilbo’s Texas Landmark, more commonly referred to as the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre BBQ”. Bilbo’s frequently features local live bands and we have heard the food is excellent too. If you are going, the directions on  this page  seem accurate. To call ahead, their number is 512-321-2049.

We would advise staying in Austin and taking advantage of the growing nightlife and art scene there. Here is a page with things to do in Austin and here are deals on flights, rental car, and rooms.

For more TCM locations in the area, check out this site or IMDB’s location page. This is an awesome picture set on flickr with various locations from the film. There are so many great reference guides for the movie(here is another one), these are all making our job easy! If “off the beaten path” is your bag, Roadside America lists other quirky destinations nearby. And finally, if you have Google Earth and want to see locations from this movie or locations from Friday the 13th, Scream, and Amityville Horror, you have to check out this index we found, it shows all of these and more!
