David O. Russell’s next project, starring Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner, & Bradley Cooper, will film in Boston (not Philly) next year

For the past few months it’s been believed David O. Russell’s next star-studded project would be shot in Philadelphia, but it looks like that plan has changed.

According to our friend HughE Dillon in Philly, the new movie about an FBI sting operation in the 1970s called Abscam, tentatively referred to as American Bullshit, will be shot in Boston due to a lack of funds left in the Pennsylvania Tax Credit Fund. He quotes Sharon Pinkenson, executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, as saying she was, “devastated that a film of that magnitude was lost to another city.”

He also notes that though the movie will be shot in Boston, it will still be set in Philly.

The Untitled David O. Russell Project is expected to begin filming in mid-February. The film stars Christian Bale as a financial con-man who is caught by an OTT federal agent, played by Bradley Cooper, along with his girlfriend, played by Amy Adams. The couple was offered a deal provided they help turn the tables on other crooks and shady politicians. They ended up taking on a leader of the New Jersey state assembly, played by Jeremy Renner, among others.

Of course Bale and Adams worked with Russell in The Fighter and Cooper is starring in Russell’s current project, Silver Linings Playbook.
