‘Transformers 4’ is headed to Detroit, Michigan

The cast and concept for Transformers 4 might be getting a makeover, but its filming locations won’t be much of a departure from Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Less than a week after Reel Chicago confirmed the movie will return to Chicago, the Michigan Film Office has announced Transformers 4 will also film scenes in Detroit, just as Transformers 3 did back in 2010.

Today the film office announced “the feature film Transformers 4 has been approved for a film incentive from the state. Transformers 4, expected to film this spring in metro Detroit, opens soon after the end of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, where a great battle left a city torn – but with the world once again saved.”

The movie is also expected to use Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac, MI which was also home to Oz:The Great and Powerful in 2011. “Transformers plans to use the state-of-the-art complex, and details are being worked out,” said Tony Wenson, the Pontiac studio’s chief operating officer.

This also makes Detroit the second luckiest city in the nation this year as it means Mark Wahlberg and Ryan Gosling (who will be filming How To Catch A Monster in Detroit in May) might be in town at the same time! Road trip, anyone?

Michigan and Illinois will be just two of several locations used in the film. Stay tuned for more Transformers 4 filming location announcements and be sure to let us know if you have any scoop about the film at olv@onlocationvacations.com!
