‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ filming in the Adirondack Mountains this week

As we’ve reported, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to begin filming in New York City next month, but first the production has made a northern detour to film a few scenes at an Adirondack Mountain ski resort.

Paramount Pictures is filming part of Ninja Turtles at the dormant Big Tupper Ski Area in Tupper Lake, NY this week and next.

“They needed a ski resort that was closed,” aid Mayor Paul Maroun. “Big Tupper fit it perfectly.”

The cast and crew are staying at a nearby Best Western in Saranac Lake and a few local homes the production has rented.

They will also be using the local golf course for parking and for a dressing room area for three days of filming. In addition, the course’s driving range will used to land a helicopter in one scene. Other scenes will involve stunt cars and drivers.

The TMNT reboot is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman and stars Megan Fox as reporter April O’Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard (Galaxy Quest) as Donatello, Pete Ploszek (Parks and Recreation), as Leonardo, and Noel Fisher (Shameless) as Michelangelo.

As Upstaters we’re tempted to drive up to the set, but not sure if we want to brave the cold. If you decide to check it out, let us know about it at olv@onlocationvacations!
