On Wednesday night Jared Leto took part in Apple’s Meet The Filmmaker series at their SoHo store to promote his new documentary, Artifact.

The doc follows the journey his band, 30 Seconds To Mars, took after being sued for 30 million dollars by their record company. During the discussion he explained that being sued was one of the worst things that ever happened to him, especially because it was by a company and “a company because it’s not human and they only care about profit.”

On the screen behind him his name was listed followed by the title: “Singer, Actor” and he noted how much things have changed with “singer” listed first. Leto hasn’t made a film in 6 years and noted that he doesn’t want to make people sick of him and wants to do a little at a time. He also showed off his sense humor joking about working with David Fincher on a movie called The Story of Richard Simmons and said it will have “lots of wigs, chest hair, and shorts!”

Jared said his band never got paid for any albums (they’ve been signed since 1998) and most musicians survive only by touring. He added, “art ultimately shouldn’t be about money, but should be about passion, creativity, dreams and should be shared with others.” That being said, he mentioned how artists should be treated fairly and shouldn’t allow themselves to get ripped off by anyone.

During the Q&A a fan asked if he would ever do a rock opera and didn’t think so. He said he loves documentaries the most and that’s what he spends most of his money on iTunes watching.

Another person in the crowd asked him to marry her and he said “next question!”
