‘Star Wars’: Help save the original Tatooine while a new one is being built in Abu Dhabi

Star Wars: Episode 7 is prepping to film in Abu Dhabi which will play Tatooine, the home planet of Luke Skywalker, in the film.

Several movie blogs and media outlets have posted photos from the set that appear to include part of an AT-AT, the giant four-legged walkers first seen in The Empire Strikes Back.

Most of the original Tatooine footage was filmed in Tunisia in North Africa where the sets have been a popular tourist destination (there was even a hotel in one of remaining buildings).

But, Star Wars fans are now worried the sets will be lost forever as the Tunisian desert is slowing taking over the remaining buildings.

Recently an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign was set up by the Tunisian government to raise $45,000 that will go toward protecting the site.

You can check out photos of the new site at ScreenCrush.com and donate to help save the existing site at Indiegogo.
