This week two pop culture worlds are colliding as Downton Abbey is filming at a location made famous by the Harry Potter films.
Alnwick Castle in England’s Northumberland region recently posted the following notice on their Facebook page:
“Please note that various areas of Alnwick Castle will be closed or have limited access on 28 July – 8th August (inclusive), due to the filming of a major ITV period drama.”
Alnwick Castle is a popular filming location that has been featured in several productions including, of course, the Harry Potter films in which it was the setting for the first Quidditch lesson and the crash-landing of the flying Ford Anglia. The castle embraces its place in cinematic history and even offers “broomstick training” for visitors.
We can’t wait to see what role Alnwick Castle will play in Downton Abbey’s upcoming fifth season!
