As we reported, Steven Spielberg’s Untitled Cold War Project, also known as St James Place, spent the day filming in Astoria, NY yesterday.
Crews brought the neighborhood back to the 1950s and wet the roads down for the rainy, retro scenes.
Spielberg was spotted on the set throughout the day, introducing himself to local police officers and giving direction to the crew.
The movie, starring Tom Hanks, Amy Ryan, Eve Hewson, and Alan Alda, tells the “true story of James Donovan, an attorney who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible mission to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot.”
Yesterday, the only actor on set was Mark Rylance but we hear Hanks will begin shooting his scenes Thursday.

Hanks wrapped NY scenes. Will resume filming in Berlin
Where in Astoria is this?
This was along the river close to the park and also on 18th street.
Are they done filming in NY?
Hey! There I am. Sixth photo, the guy on the left.
This was on 18th Street by the way, a block or two south of Astoria Park.
I thought it was remarkable that the stores at that intersection remained open the entire time, and it wasn’t a problem.
This was a fun day of shooting.
