On Friday, we were in Boston to see Flight of the Conchords at Boston University. Of course they were fantastic and well worth the drive!
After the show, we drove to 5 Union Park where they were filming a night scene for The Company Men, starring Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, and Kevin Costner. It was a nice night and a pleasant neighborhood so we were excited to hang out and watch them film a few scenes.
The director, John Wells, checked the lighting and positioning over and over again with the stand-ins before bringing the actors on set. Then, just before a white van arrived with the actors, the PAs all started pushing the crowd (only about 20 people) way back so we didn’t have a great shot of the actual scene but we could hear everything the actors were saying. They also blocked anyone with a camera, Flip, cell phone, or any other device that could possibly record anything. They wouldn’t tell anyone in the crowd who was in the scene even though it was clear the actor was Tommy Lee Jones and the actress may have been Rosemarie DeWitt. In the scene Rosemarie takes Tommy Lee’s car and tells him he “got screwed”. After they finished filming, we tried to get a picture of TLJ getting back into the van and a PA literally blocked the shot with his body. It makes me wonder what they’re trying to hide. I suspect this movie isn’t going to be very good or the director’s a prick, I’m not sure which. So here’s the only set picture we could take without being blocked by Chris the pricky PA. UPDATE: It looks like the actress in the scene with Tommy Lee Jones may have been Maria Bello.
