A new Dirty Dancing remake is headed to TV next year, and it looks like it will be filmed in North Carolina this summer
According to the Asheville Citizen Times, the update of the classic 1987 film will air as a three-episode TV miniseries on ABC. The official synopsis describes the limited series as “night of singing and dancing as we update the classic film Dirty Dancing as a three-hour event.”
Most filming is expected to take place between May 29 and July 10 at High Hampton Inn and Resort in Cashiers, NC which will be renovating their current boathouse for the shoot.
Other locations around Asheville, Cashiers, Winston-Salem and Greensboro will include the Stevens Center Theater and the Carolina Theatre.
The series is expected to create an estimated 1,300 jobs in North Carolina.
Dirty Dancing is set in the Catskills but the original movie was also filmed in NC, at Lake Lure which still commemorates the famous film with an annual festival.
