‘Star Trek Beyond’ moves from Vancouver to Dubai

The cast and crew of Star Trek Beyond, including Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and newcomer Idris Elba, has arrived in Dubai, where they will spend the next two weeks filming on location.

This is the thrid major film franchise to shoot in the middle eastern city over the past five years. Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, was featured in Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, while Star Wars: The Force Awakens filmed in the United Arab Emirates last year.

Star Trek just wrapped three months filming in Vancouver, and will spend the next 13-days in Dubai before completing principal photography.

“We came searching for the future and we found it,” said producer Jeffrey Chernov of Dubai. “We’d drive around Dubai and look at things and we’d have to figure out how we can use those visual guides to tell our story,” he added. “I’d see a building and say, ‘We have to figure out how to put that in our movie.'”

Star Trek Beyond will hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
