Star Wars: Episode VIII will be back on location in Ireland next week.
The residents of Malin Head, in Ireland’s County Donegal, have received filming notices advising a project will soon be shooting on their coastline, the most northerly point of the country.
Lucasfilm has yet to confirm the project is indeed Star Wars but locals, and the tourists who are already in town to scope out the movie’s set up, are certain it is Episode VIII. “People [are] coming here… just to see how its made,” Jim Mullin of Malin Head Community Association told RTE News. “We can only imagine what it will be like when they start filming it.”
The Disney company might be staying mum on the shoot, but the Donegal County Council has confirmed roads leading to Malin Head will be closed between May 15-17, for filming.
“To think for one second that the Millennium Falcon is sitting on Ireland’s most northerly point, it’s next door to us,” said local Hugh Farren, regarding a structure being built on Malin Head.
Skellig Michael, an island off the coast of Ireland’s County Kerry, was featured at the end of A Force Awakens and will be seen in Episode VIII, too.
