Johnny Depp took a break from promoting Alice Through the Looking Glass and getting divorced on Tuesday night to kick off The Hollywood Vampires’ summer tour at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in upstate New York.
The “supergroup” is comprised of Depp, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and Guns N’ Roses’ alums Matt Sorum and bassist Duff McKagan. According to Rolling Stone, “Hollywood Vampires started with the idea of recording a covers album, giving them an excuse to fool around in the actor’s well-appointed studio. The band took its name from a 1970s L.A. drinking collective that included Cooper, Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson and guest stars like John Lennon and Ringo Starr. Eventually, the new Hollywood Vampires cut an album, with a number of tracks paying tribute to rock greats who drank or drugged themselves to death — Moon, John Bonham, Jim Morrison — some of whom were friends of Cooper.”
The gig was just the first of more than two dozen summer dates lined up for the Vampires, including venues as diverse as Rock in Rio to the California Mid-State Fair. You can still get tickets, and VIP passes, to most gigs at hollywoodvampires.com.
In the meantime, check out a few photos of Depp on stage last night, courtesy of his bandmate Alice Cooper.
