The first season of Amazon’s The Last Tycoon, starring Matt Bomer, Kelsey Grammer, Rosemarie DeWitt and Lily Collins, has started filming in Los Angeles. After releasing the pilot episode last spring, Amazon announced it would be bringing Tycoon to series.
The series is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s final unfinished novel of the same name which was inspired by the life of film mogul Irving Thalberg, on whom the book’s protagonist Monroe Stahr was based. According to Deadline, “the project centers on Stahr (Bomer), Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930s as he climbs to the height of power pitting him against his mentor and current head of the studio, the brawny, imposing, charming and vain Pat Brady (Grammer), a character based on Louis B. Mayer. Having come from the streets, Brady has no intention of returning to his misfortune, and is determined to make sure his studio is successful, no matter what personal morals he compromises. Dewitt plays Pat Brady’s wife, Rose Brady, who may be involved with Stahr.”
According to recent filming permits, The Last Tycoon will be filming at the following locations this week:
- 511 S Muirfield Rd, Los Angeles on 01/12 from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM
- 635 Mateo St, Los Angeles 1/13 – 01/14 from 12:00 PM – 3:00 AM
