Hot Topic: How Much Is Too Much When It Comes To Celeb “Stalking”?

robAs the debate rages on in various posts across our site this week, I thought I would set up a new post to debate where exactly we should draw the line when trying to get a glimpse of our favorite celebrities.

I’ll start with a confession. Once, many years ago, when Jimmy Fallon was still on SNL, I saw him outside of 30 Rock and what followed is what I commonly refer to as the “Jimmy Fallon Grab”.

I was much younger and much stupider, and foolishly grabbed his arm as I walked by him. I can still see it, in slow motion, I reached out and just grabbed him. I would never do that to a perfect stranger! But because it was Jimmy Fallon, who I had a major celeb crush on, I lost control.  It was completely inappropriate and, thankfully, he ignored it and I came to my senses before I was arrested! (Thanks to Jimmy Fallon for not calling the cops!)

So clearly, this is crossing a line, physical contact with strangers is not really popular in our society. But what about waiting outside a celeb’s hotel or apartment building? The Robert Pattinson fans seem to have pretty strong feelings about this one.

What about watching celebrities film a scene on a public street, most would think that’s ok until a celeb is, let’s say, chased by a mob of teenage girls. But isn’t that just part of the “fame game”?

Let us know what you think or what your experience has been.

And feel free to share your own embarassing celeb encounters!

  1. I can safely say I have never grabbed or mauled someone who didn’t want to be touched( 0nly boyfriends, ha ha) Personally, I really hate people invading my space. But I would never want to be a celebrity, I mean never. I like the vantage point of being a great fan.

Now if my livelihood, legit livelihood depends on fans and I mean if I lost fans I would lose money and or prominence I really would have to suffer the consequence of fame. I don’t think people should sell or pimp themselves but i do think celebrities have to give a part of themselves over to the craft!( give as much so as not to cause pain) Act like you like it smile and then go home. I mean do PR til it hurts cause it all about getting them Benjamins. No one is a volunteer when you are getting 5-10 million for a role plus loads of freebies!!
If you want privacy and perhaps a sustainable career and not a celebrity career don’t hang out in very public places, hotels or restaurant that other celebrities go to. But if you want a short temp career hang out with other celebrities, try and hide in very public places.
